Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease that is still a public health problem in the world. Besides clinical symptom, examination that is commonly used in the diagnosis of pulmonary TB is a radiological examination (chest X-ray). Cavity findings on chest X-ray of pulmonary TB cases vary from 20-45%. Cavity can be found in other lung diseases, so this study aims to determine the characteristics of cavity on adult pulmonary TB chest X-ray. This study is descriptive observational using data from medical record and chest X-ray of adult pulmonary tuberculosis patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from the time period January 2020-October 2021. It was found that 28 patients had a cavity and read by a radiologist at the Radiology Installation of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin. Data were processed using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 25. Based on number of cavity, multiple (60.7%), and solitary (39.3%). Based on location of cavity, most cavity located in the upper left zone (57.1%); other locations in the upper right zone (46.4%), left middle zone (53.6%), right middle zone (25.0%), lower left zone (14.3%), and lower right zone (7.1%). Based on wall thickness of cavity, the most thickness were > 4 mm (89.3%), other thickness were < 2 mm (3.6%), and 2 mm - 4 mm (7.1%). Based on diameter of cavity, the most common were > 4 cm (57.1%); other diameters were 2 cm – 4 cm (28.6%), and < 2 cm (14.3%). Cavity characteristics on adult pulmonary tuberculosis chest X-ray at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang were multiple in the upper left zone with wall thickness > 4 mm and diameter > 4 cm.
