Abstract

Vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) has been successfully cultivated in freshwater. Thus, it is potential to be developed in swamp waters. The incidence of disease, especially the bacterial disease Motile Aeromonas Septicemia (MAS) becomes a threats for vaname culture in swamp water. This study aims to determine the minimum number of bacteria that can cause MAS disease in vaname shrimp reared in swamp water. The research design uses a completely randomized design (CRD) with three treatmens (T) two replications and it is duplo. Treatments are about 3 bacterial density namely 103 CFU mL-1 (T1), 104 CFU mL-1 (T2) and 105 CFU mL-1 (T3). As control (T0), culture are not given with bacteria. The parameters observed are the prevalence of infected shrimp, clinical symptoms, histopathological analysis, bacterial density after infection, survival rate and water quality. The results showed that the administration of bacteria in each treatment could infect vaname shrimp with a percentage of 100%, the highest bacterial density in the rearing found in the medium was 105 CFU mL-1 (T3), which was 5.04x1011 CFU mL-1 and the lowest was in the treatment 103 CFU mL-1 (T1), which was 4.75x107 CFU mL-1, while the highest bacterial density was found in the vaname shrimp body in the treatment 105 CFU mL-1 (T3 ) which is 2,76x1011 CFU mL- 1and the lowest is in the treatment of 103 CFU mL-1 (T1) which is 2.46x107 CFU mL-1. The highest survival was found in T0 treatment, which was 100%, while the lowest was in T3 at 30%. The conclusion of this study is bacteria A. hydrophila can be infect vaname shrimp reared in swamp water with a density of 103 CFU mL-1 resulting in a mortality of 20%.
