Abstract

Research has been carried out on the effect of the type of fuel on the characteristics of ZnFe2O4 synthesized by the solution combustion method. The synthesis of ZnFe2O4 was carried out with three types of fuel, namely urea, glycine and ethylene diamine tetra acetate (EDTA). The result of the synthesis of ZnFe2O4 was in the form of a powder which was then characterized using XRD, VSM, FTIR and determination of the surface area of ZnFe2O4 using the methylene blue method. XRD diffractogram analysis showed peaks at an angle of 2θ for ZnFe2O4 with urea, glycine and EDTA fuels of 35.68; 35.24 and 35.38. Based on the crystal size calculation using the Debye Scherrer equation, ZnFe2O4 with EDTA fuel has the largest crystal size of 27.16 nm while ZnFe2O4 with urea fuel has a smaller crystal size of 10.19 nm and ZnFe2O4 with glycine fuel has almost the same crystal size. with EDTA fuel that is 27.15 nm. VSM analysis based on hysteresis curves shows that the highest saturation magnetization value is found in ZnFe2O4 with EDTA fuel, which is 58.34 emu/g, ZnFe2O4 with urea fuel of 44.13 emu/g and ZnFe2O4 with glycine fuel of 53.13 emu/g. FTIR spectra analysis showed the emergence of several bonds, namely Fe-O, Zn-O, O-H, C-H, N-H and C-O. The results of the determination of the surface area showed that ZnFe2O4 with Urea, glycine and EDTA fuels each had a surface area of 14.52 m2/g, 15.09 m2/g and 69.60 m2/g.
