Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of emotional intelligence towards sense of coherence on nurses assigned to COVID-19 units. The hypothesis of this study is emotional intelligence has a role towards sense of coherence. Participants in this study are 102 hospital nurses who worked in COVID-19 units. Sampling is done by using purposive sampling technique. This study uses two scales as measuring instrument, such as sense of coherence scale that refers to sense of coherence dimensions from Antonovsky (1996) and emotional intelligence scale that refers to emotional intelligence dimensions from Goleman (1995). Hypothesis testing in this study is done by using simple regression analysis. The test results showed the value of R square = 0.252, F = 33.773, p = 0.000 (p<0.05). These results indicate that the proposed hypothesis is accepted, that there is a significant role of emotional intelligence towards sense of coherence. The contribution of emotional intelligence towards sense of coherence is 25.2%.
