Abstract
The test on performance of Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) on Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) with Pt-Black/C and Pt/C catalyst has been done. The study was conducted by four MEA. The four MEA were characterized using the Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) method to calculate the value of Electrochemical Surface Area (ECSA) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to calculate the conductivity value. MEA performance test was also carried out based on the I–V and I–P performance curves. MEA performance test was carried out by measuring the OCV value and maximum power density. The ECSA values for MEA by sequentially Pt-Black/C CCM, Pt/C CCM, Pt-Black/C spraying and Pt/C spraying is 2.248 cm2/g, 1.523 cm2/g, 1.524 cm2/g and 0.410 cm2 /g, while the OCV value obtained is 0.846 V, 0.725 V, 0.812 V and 0.715 V. The values obtained for successive performance tests at a maximum power density of 0.1265 mW/cm2, 0.11 mW/cm2, 0.1246 mW/cm2 and 0.083 mW/cm2, while for the optimum current of 0.37 mA/cm2, 0.35 mA/cm2, 0.31 mA/cm2 and 0.21 mA/cm2. Based on OCV, I-V and I-P tests the performance of PEMFC using MEA Pt-Black/C was better than MEA Pt/C.
