Abstract

The main disease of oil palm is the cause of stem rot disease caused by the fungus G.boninense which causes low yields and causes considerable losses. This study aims to determine the efficacy of initial suppression of G.boninense on oil palm seedlings using antagonistic fungi in intercropping with taro against disease and growth of oil palm seedlings. This study used a completely randomized design consisting of 5 treatments and 10 replications. The treatments used include 1). Oil palm seeds + G.boninense + antagonist fungus (TLTF8), 2). Oil palm seeds + G.boninense + antagonist fungus (TLTF3), 3). Oil palm seeds + G.boninense + antagonist fungus (TLRF3), 4). Oil palm seeds + G.boninense but without antagonist 5). Oil palm seedlings were planted with taro and not inoculated with G.boninense. G.boninense inoculations carried out in the last 2 months on oil palm seedlings intercropped with taro have not found any signs of root rot disease on the upper parts of the oil palm seedlings, but after 2 months and the oil palms were dismantled, symptoms were found on the roots, namely necrosis in the root. Fruiting bodies were only found in PKK treated with Trichoderma sp. (TLTF8, TLTF3, TRF3). Planting oil palm seedlings with taro treated with Trichoderma sp. for 2 months did not affect the disease which was measured as root necrosis. Isolates of Trichoderma sp. TLRF3 for 2 months tended to inhibit the growth of oil palm seedlings and isolates of Trichoderma sp. TLTF8 triggers the growth of oil palm seedlings. The antagonism test did not inhibit the growth of the mycelium of G.boninense. Keywords: G.boninense, Palm oil, Taro
