Abstract

This thesis is entitled "Impact of Irrigation on the Socio-Economic Life of Rice Farmers in Sumber Agung Village, Lempuing District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency in 2013-2020 (Material Contribution for Economic History Course)". The formulation of the problem in this study is, how is the impact of the existence of irrigation on the social and economic life of the rice farming community in the village of Sumber Agung, Lempuing District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, 2013-2020. The purpose of this study was to explain the impact of irrigation on the social and economic life of rice farmers in Sumber Agung Village, Lempuing District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency in 2013-2020. The method used in this study uses the historical method. The steps taken are heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and writing (historiography) as well as researchers using anthropological, sociological, economic and geographical approaches. The results of this study indicate that the impact of irrigation development is the starting point for improving rice farming in Sumber Agung Village, the existence of irrigation can make it easier for farmers to get water for rice farming purposes which has an impact on increasing rice production. Not only in terms of production but irrigation also has an impact on the social and economic life of the community. The impact on social life includes the increasing number of schools, health facilities, and the establishment of farmer organizations that support rice farmer activities in Sumber Agung Village. As for the economic life, the impact includes the expansion of ricefields, increased rice production, increased rice milling business and the use of local labor as workers in irrigation networks.
