Abstract

The waters of West Sumatra are waters that interact directly with the Indian Ocean, which is located between the continents of Asia and the continents of Australia. The waters of West Sumatra are known to have the Indian Ocean Dipole phenomenon. Therefore, it is necessary to know information about the state of the sea during normal times and when the IOD phenomenon occurs. This research took place in May – August 2021. The method used to analyze the parameters of the water profile was using a RAMA buoy at 2 coordinate points 5oS 95oE and 8oS 95oE for temperature, salinity, density and rainfall data and using remote sensing technology for surface temperature data. sea using data from NOAA satellites. The positive IOD phenomenon in 2019 underwent an evolutionary phase in September with a peak phase in October and the final phase of IOD in December. The graph of the relationship between the IOD index and rainfall shows that it is inversely proportional to the IOD index value. The correlation value between the SPL of the buoy correlation with the NOAA satellite is very strong. The values of temperature, salinity, and density from 2018 – 2020 have varying values. Temperature values range from 8 – 31oC when a positive IOD occurs, it ranges from 15 to 23 oC, salinity ranges from 33.3 – 35.6 ppt when a positive IOD occurs, it ranges from 33.4 – 35.2 ppt, and density ranges from 20.4 – 25.6 kg/m3 when there is a positive IOD is around 21-24 kg/m3.
