Abstract

Cucumber and cherry tomato are low altitude vegetable crops commonly suffer ffom L. sativae aggression. The damage caused by the insect in cucumber planting could reach 60%, while in low altitude tomato the damage could reach 70%. The Porpose of the research was to study the population and aggression of Z. sativae as well as potential of its parasitoid on field of cherry tomato and cucumber. The research was conducted for one cropping seasons. The research was conducted on field of cucumber and cherry tomato at Inderalaya district, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra ffom march to June 2006. The research used survey method directly by observing to crop sample. The number of crop sample was to 10% of the crop population. The observation of population and aggression of L. sativae and the observation of its population development were conducted by using yellow trap. The results of field observation showed that the highest population of L. sativae in cucumber crop sample was 5.45 adults/trap found at 6 month old. The highest imago population in cherry tomato was 5.56 adults /trap and also found in 6 months old. The highest damage intensity in cucumber was 16.03% found in 8 on months old crop, while the highest damage intensity in cherry tomato was 18.38 and found in 5 months old. In field of cherry tomato, there were spesies parasitoid found i.e. Neochrysocharis sp., Neochrysocharis okazakii (Kamijo), Hemiptarsenus varicomis (Girault) and one species belongs to Mymaridae. In field of cucumber there were, two species of parasitoid found i.e Neochrysocharis sp. and one species belongs to Mymaridae. The distinguish parasitism in cucumber reached its peak (33.33%) when the crop aged 3 weeks, while distinguish parasitism in cherry tomato reached its peak (39.68%) when the crop aged 3 weeks. The lowest distinguish parasitism in field of cucumber was 9.26% when the crop aged 9 weeks, while the lowest distinguish parasitism in field of cherry tomato was 14.29% when the crop aged 10 weeks.
