Abstract

B. bassiana is one of the entomopathogenic fimgi which is known its activity to control plant pests. Fungi use is quite promising to be applied due to its highest reproductivity, spore’s capability to resist in the environment and its compatibility with other synthetic insecticides. Medium for spore rearing and formulation play important roles to keep or maintain its effectivity. This study was aimed to assess the effectivity of various bioinsecticideas rearing media on the diamondback moth larvae, and has been carried out at Entomology Laboratory, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya Campus, from May 2006 to May 2007. Spores densities of 10,105, 107ml‘1 have been sprayed to determine larval mortality, pupation and abnormality excess of adults. Result of study stated that all treatments showed significant effects on the larval development. The highest larval mortality could be reached by bioinsecticide treatment with rearing medium and carrier, Sabouraud Dextrose Broth (SDB), i.e. 14.44%, and the lowest pupation emergence 83.33%. The common symptom of infected larvae was discoloration of body. Bright green color changed to dark brownish green. Larvae became weak in moving and had less appetite for feeding. Upper larvae body color changed to brown and became brownish black by time. Larvae stopped feeding and moving, and dead in brief time. Larval body got hardened as mummy. The lowest adult emergence and the highest adult body abnormality up to 68.89% and 11.11% have been showed at bioinsecticide’s treatment with rearing medium and carrier of SDB. Aqueous bioinsecticide formulation was more efTective against diamondback moth. Aqueous bioinsecticide with shrimp shell compost extract was less effective on pupae adult and abnormality of adult emergences. bioinsecticide was less significant on mortality, adult emergence, and body abnormality of adult emerged. Bioinsecticide contained B. bassiana had significant effects on pupae emergence, adult emergence and abnormality of adult body.
