Abstract

Banana plants are horticultural crops from the group of fruits that are currently being developed by many farmers. In increasing the production of bananas, it has a relationship with environmental conditions and plant-disturbing organisms, one of which is a parasitic nematode on banana plants. Parasitic nematodes are pathogenic organisms that have an elongated thread-like shape or are tubular and coiled and are often found in the soil. Distribution of nematodes in the soil is generally more around the roots and rarely found in soil that is too wet. genus and species of nematodes is a very important step to determine the pathogenicity of these nematodes. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there were parasitic nematodes of banana plants (Musa paradisiaca) from North Indralaya and what species of parasitic nematodes of banana plants (Musa paradisiaca) were obtained from northern Indralaya. This study used one type of banana plant, namely Musa paradisiaca which was used as a plant to take samples. The method used is descriptive quantitative. Each of the nematode species found were collected as many as 20 nematodes. The parameters observed were the values of L, a, b, b', c, c', V and stylet. This is done according to de Man's formula. Based on the results of the study, it was shown that there were two species of parasitic nematodes of banana plants (Musa paradisiaca) which were found from North Indralaya, namely Radopholus similes and Xiphinema americanum. This can be seen based on the key form of nematode identification Plant parasitic nematodes a pictorial key to genera (May et al, 1996) and the book Nematology (Eisenback, 2003). The results of the measurement of the male nematode Radopholus similes (n=20) had a value of L = 302.52-397.76 m; a = 20.54-27.00 m; b = 5.80-7.58 m; b' = 13.62-18.89 m; c = 21.29-30.39 m; c' = 2.77-4.27 m; V = 54%-85%; Stylet = 9.07-11.65 m. The length of the nematode Radopholus similes obtained in this study ranged from 302.52-397.76 m. these values are in the range reported by (Trinh et al., 2012) that Radopholus similes has a total body length of 299 m-615 m. The results of measurements of the nematode species Xiphinema americanum Female (n=20) had a value of L = 350.09-395.90 m; a = 32.36-36.53 m; b = 7.49-8.91 m; b' = 16.42-19.42 m; c = 24.89-30.21 m; c' = 3.64-6.07 m; V = 61%-79%; 9.23-11.23 m stylet. The length of the Xiphinema americanum nematode found in this study ranged from 350.09 to 395.90 m. This value is in the range reported by (Michel et al., 1998) that Xiphinema americanum has a total body length of 0.3 mm – 0.67 mm or the equivalent of 300 m – 670 m. Nematode attacks can inhibit plant growth, reducing the quantity and quality of production. The results of this study can be used as primary data to determine strategies for controlling parasitic nematodes associated with banana plants from North Indralaya, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra.
