Abstract

One of the damages to banana plants is caused by disease, for example, is banana dwarf disease caused by banana bunchy top virus (BBTV). Transmission of BBTD is vectored by insects namely Pentalonia nigronervosa that already exists almost inall over the world. This study was conducted in the insectarium and experikental garden the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The study began in August with the method used was RandomIzed Group Design (RBD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications, which each replication consists of 3 plants. The treatment used was 0 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours. In the 0-hour treatment it does not use a passing plant, while in the treatment of 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours was carried out to by poassing the infective P. nigronervosa through ornamental caladium for 24, 48 and 72 hours. This study aims to find out the biology of Pentalonia nigronervosa in ornamental caladium (C. bicolor) and to find out the efficiency of transmission of BBTV by aphids as a vector of BBTV after being passed on ornamental caladium (C. bicolor). The results of observations that have been made that Pentalonia nigronervosa is able to live well in ornamental caladium (C. bicolor), this shows that the plant is able to be be an alternative host for Pentalonia nigronervosa with a lifespan of 1-4 imago for 2-4 days, the age of imago lasts for 14-35 days with a reproductive period of 13-32 days with fecundity of 18-94 pe4 imago. The infestation of infective Pentalonia nigronervosa into healthy bananaafter being passed through orna,ental caladium (C. bicolor) did not affect the level BBTV transmission rate.
