Abstract

ABSTRAK Korosi merupakan suatu kerusakan pada suatu material dikarenakan reaksi elektrokimia antara material dengan lingkungannya. Korosi memang tidak dapat dihindari, namun laju korosi dapat di kurangi. Pada penelitian ini, penelitian bertujuan untuk mengendalikan laju korosi dengan jenis penelitian eksperimen pada media uji baja ST37 sebanyak 8 buah dengan perlakuan panas quenching dan di dingingkan dengan media pendingin larutan basa yang dalam hal ini menggunakan pupuk SP36 dan pupuk urea. Setiap larutan memiliki kadar dengan perbandingan yang berbeda-beda. Penelitian dilanjutkan dengan pengujian spesimen dengan media korosif asam asetat selama 15 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa spesimen 5 urea 10% di quenching persentase kerusakan sebesar 9,574% dengan laju korosi sebesar 0,205 mpy, spesimen 7 Sp36 10% di quenching mengalami persentase kerusakan sebesar 12,659% dengan laju korosi 0,275 mpy. Jadi, proses quenching dan penggunaan media pendingin menggunakan larutan basa mampu menghambat laju korosi dan menurunkan presentase kerusakan dari material baja ST37.
