Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang” Studi Komunitas Plankton di Perairan Sungai Gasing Kecamatan Talang Kelapa Kabupaten Banyuasin Provinsi Sumatera Selatan”, pada bulan Mei dan Juni 2010. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui struktur komunitas plankton yang meliputi kelimpahan, indeks keanekaragaman, indeks dominansi dan indeks kesamaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Purposive Random Sampling dengan 5 titik stasiun di perairan Sungai Gasing. Identifikasi dilakukan di Laboratorium Ekologi Hewan, Jurusan Biologi, Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam, Universitas Sriwijaya. Hasil penelitian didapatkan struktur penyusun komunitas plankton terdiri dari 17 genus yang berasal dari 5 kelas yaitu Bacillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae , Cyanophyceae, Crustaceae, dan Rotatoria. Kelimpahan komunitas plankton berkisar antara 43,5-328,5 Ind/1. Indeks keanekaragaman tergolong rendah sampai sedang, yaitu berkisar antara 0,49- 1,78. Indeks dominansi plankton yang didapat berkisar antara 0,21-0,81 yang menunjukkan bahwa adanya genus yang mendominasi. Indeks kesamaan komunitas plankton relatif sama dan tergolong tinggi (>50%) yaitu berkisar antara 63,15 - 94,11%.
