Abstract

The research about bioethanol production as altemative energy resource has been done from rice straw. Cellulose content in rice straw can be used as substrate to produce cellulase enzymes by Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma reesei each other with solid State fermentation at pH 5 with 30° C temperature. This research was done in four steps. Delignification with 2 % NaOH to reduce lignin content, production of cellulase enzymes, hydrolysis with cellulase enzymes to produce glucose, and fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae to produce ethanol. The result of research showed that delignification with 2 % NaOH reduced lignin as much as 36.59 %. The highest protein content and the highest enzyme activity were produced by cellulase enzyme extract from Trichoderma reesei as much as 9.728 mg/mL and 2.392 IU/mL was obtained at 7 days fermentation time, the highest glucose content was produced from hydrolysis by cellulase enzyme extract from Trichoderma reesei as much as 16.390 mg/mL was obtained at 5 days incubation time, and the highest ethanol volume was produced by fermentation from the highest hydrolysis with cellulase enzyme extract from Aspergillus niger was 9.379 mL respectively measured by gas chromatography.
