Abstract

Synthesis of Montmorillonite-Ti02 photocatalyst using alkyl ammonium salt was done. Montmorillonite-TiC^ made from Na-Montmorillonite was treated by alkyl ammonium salt, followed by T1O2 intercalation with weight ratio 1 : 4, 2 : 3, 3 : 2, and 4:1. Synthesis result was characterized using x-ray diffraction (XRD) and gas sorption analysis. XRD analysis result showed alkyl ammonium salt causes increase of basal spacing on Na-Montmorillonite from 14.19 A to 18.85 A. Gas Sorption analysis result (specific surface area, total pore volume, and pore radius) for Na-Montmorillonite showed that adding alkyl ammonium decreased specific surface area from 59.4523 m2/g to 15.0987 m7g, total pore volume from 42,875 10'3cc/g to 10.996 10 "3cc/g, and pore radius from 13.8585 A to 13.681 A. Ti02 (1:4) intercalation showed further decreased of specific surface area from 59.4523 m2/g to 15.0282 m2/g, total pore volume from.42,875 10'3cc/g to 10.872 10'3cc/g, and pore radius from 13.8585 A to 13.449 A.
