Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah merancang alat pengukur kadar air tanah yang sederhana, murah, relatif cepat dan cukup teliti. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Teknik Konservasi Tanah dan Air, Bengkel Jurusan Teknologi Pertanian dan Kebun Percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sriwijaya, Indralaya mulai bulan Januari 2005 sampai dengan Juni 2005. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rancangan teknik, yang terdiri dari tiga tahap yaitu pendekatan rancangan, pembuatan alat dan pengujian alat di lapangan. Pengujian alat di lapangan dilakukan pada empat kondisi tanah yaitu tanah datar tidak bervegetasi, tanah datar bervegetasi, tanah miring tidak bervegetasi dan tanah miring bervegetasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hambatan listrik berhubungan negatif dengan kadar air tanah. Hasil pengukuran pada keempat kondisi tanah menunjukkan bahwa semakin kecil hambatan listrik maka akan semakin besar kadar air tanah. Kadar air tanah yang terbesar terdapat pada tanah datar bervegetasi sebesar 33,6 %, sedangkan kadar air tanah terkecil terdapat pada tanah miring bervegetasi sebesar 21,42 %. Analisis matematik menunjukkan bahwa pada empat kondisi tanah hambatan listrik memiliki hubungan yang sangat erat dengan kadar air tanah yang ditunjukkan dengan R2 sebesar 0,8055 sampai 0,917.
