Abstract

The objectives of this research was to design the durian peeler as a better altemative to the conventional tools. This research was conducted in Agriculture Technology Workshop on May until June 2006. The method used in tliis study was engineering design consisting of design approach, equipment construction and equipment testing. The durian peeler construction had two levers use to distribute forces, one for vertical force and the other for horizontal force. The equipment trials used twenty durians for sample, eight durians were ripe, seven durians were half ripe , and five durians were raw. The equipment trials result was used to determine the equipment working capacity and working efficiency. The highest capacity of equipment was 9.6 fruits per minute for ripe durians, whereas the smallest capacity was 6.35 fruits per minute for raw durians. The equipment efficiency for durian peeler was 31.84 % for ripe durians and 21.06 % for raw durians.
