Abstract

Ischemic stroke is a sudden neurologic deficit characterized by rapid-growing brain dysfunction that results from occlusion in one or more cerebral blood vessel. Non-contrast head CT (NCCT) is the first line radiological diagnostic modality used widely in diagnosing ischemic stroke because of the capability to rule out hemorrhagic stroke. The severity of neurologic deficits in the case of stroke can be assessed by using the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). The location where the infarct occurs can affect the total NIHSS score. Therefore, this study aims to determine the correlation between lesion localization based on head CT imaging and neurologic deficit severity of the ischemic stroke patients in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This study was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. The samples of this study were collected from the medical record data of cerebral infarction patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study obtained sample of 52 ischemic stroke patients. Univariate analysis showed ischemic stroke patients mostly consisting of 55 – 64 year old (46,2%), man (57,7%), no history of smoking (76,9%), history of hypertension (84,6%), lesion on middle cerebral artery (MCA) (69,2%), and moderate neurologic deficits (73,1%). Bivariate analysis showed no significant correlation between lesion localization and neurologic deficit severity with P value 0,162 (P>0,05). There is no significant correlation between lesion localization based on head CT imaging with neurological deficit severity of ischemic stroke patients in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang.
