Abstract

The research objective was to investigate and study physical composite materials from several banana fibers as well as matrix of polyester resin. The method used in this study was description method followed by tabulation and graphical presentations using single fiber orientation having cross section with angle of 90°. The operational of making composite are mixing between polyester resin, cobalt blue, and catalyst. Composite is made by mixing 200 ml polyester resin, 2 ml cobalt blue, and 2 ml catalyst. The fusion mix between resin polyester and banana fiber plait was in matrix size of length 22 cm, width 14 cm, and height 0.5 cm. The observed parameters were fiber density, fiber draw strength, specimen draw tension, impact energy and bending tension. The highest average value of fiber draw strength for Putri banana was 3.626 N, the highest average value of fiber density was found at Putri banana with magnitude of 0.027298 g/pm3, the highest average value of specimen draw tension was found at Putri banana with magnitude of 2.314 kgf/mm2, the highest average value of impact energy was found at Gedah banana with magnitude of 1.1972 Joule, and the highest average value of bending2 ^tension was found at Gedah banana with magnitude of 7.2 kg/mm . The result showed that Putri banana fiber had better characteristics in term of fiber density, draw strength, and specimen draw tension than the fibers of Kepok and Gedah bananas.
