Abstract

The province of South Sumatra has a potential swamp land for the development of a floating farming system. In addition to rice cultivation, organic floating vegetables can also be practiced and the results are not much different or even better than terrestrial and can be used by farmers during the 2-3 month flood period in swampy swamps, so that farmers can do 2-3 plantings because of the shorter harvest time. Floating cultivation in this study used a raft made of 10 pieces of bamboo with a size of 2x1 M. The use of Compound Fertilizer (NPK) is more efficient in terms of application because it is widely marketed and easily absorbed by plants. Application of NPK compound fertilizer can meet the needs of spinach because the elements N, P, K are important elements that affect plant growth and yield. NPK fertilizer only contains macro nutrients, but does not contain micro nutrients (Mg, Ca, and Br) needed by spinach. The study was conducted to determine the effect of giving various doses of NPK fertilizer on the growth of amaranth (Amaranthus sp) floating plants. The research was conducted to evaluate the application of various doses of NPK fertilizer on growth and production of amaranth plants (Amaranthus sp) grown in a floating system. The research was conducted in the reservoir located inside Sriwijaya University campus, Indralaya. The study was carried out from June to August 2021. The method used in this study was a randomized block design with 4 treatment levels and 3 replicates, resulting in 12 treatment units with 3 plants per unit, so that there 36 plants in total. The treatments consisted of P0 = Control (without NPK fertilizer), P1 = 3.75 g NPK/Polybag, P2 = 7.50 g NPK/Polybag, and P3 = 15.0 g NPK/Polybag. Data then were analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) test followed by Least Significance Difference (LSD) test at 5% level. Parameters observed were plant height, leaf number, leaf greenness level, leaf area, shoot fresh weight, leaf fresh weight, root fresh weight, root length, leaf dry weight and root dry weight. The results showed that NPK fertilizer had a very significant effect on the parameters of leaf number at the third week , shoot fresh weight, leaf fresh weight, and root fresh weight.
