Abstract

This study aims to explain how the Transnational Advocacy Network strategy in the #MeToo movement against sexual violence and harassment in South Korea. The #MeToo movement, which started in the United States after Hollywood actress Alyssa Milano made a tweet about sexual harassment with the hashtag #MeToo has spread worldwide. The beginning of the #MeToo movement came from the confession of a prosecutor, Seo Ji-Hyeon, who was sexually harassed. Taking advantage of the current situation, the #MeToo movement activists are tried to get international support to pressure the South Korean government to improve its policies. This study uses the concept of the Transnational Advocacy Network as a rationale. The research method used is a qualitative-descriptive approach in which the author explains the existing phenomena by telling the situation and conditions that occurred and then confirming it with theory. In the theory of the Transnational Advocacy Network by Margareth Keck and Kathryn Sikkink trying to explain the advocacy strategies launched by the #MeToo movement including Information Politics, Symbolic Politics, Leverage Politics, and Accountability Politics. The results of this study have resulted in the movement's achievements in influencing the state, especially on changes to policies regarding sexual harassment and violence as well as amendments to the EEO Act.
