Abstract

Research on the effect of the insecticide profenofos on production and viability of earthworm cocoons Pontoscolex corethrurus Fr. Mull has been carried out ffom July to October 2011 took place in Animal Physiology Laboratory Department of Biological Science University of Sriwijaya. This study aims to determine the concentration of profenofos how that affectsthe production of earthworms and decreased viability Pontoscolex corethrurus cocoon of a worm. This researchused Completely Randomized Design, each consisting of fivetreatments and five replications. The parameters in this studyis the production and cocoon viability. The treatment in this study is an insecticide profenofos with each concentration (control) 0%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3% and 0.4% mixed into the feed. From the observations of cocoon production, found a marked influence on cocoon production. The highest production valuein Pi to 6.0 ± 1.224 kokon/pot/2 week, the lowest at 0.4% concentration is 4.2 ± 1.095 kokon/pot/2 weeks. While thehighest cocoon viability at concentrations of 0.1% is 3.4 ±1.341 and the lowest at 0.4% concentration is 2.0 ± 01.244 conclusion of the study results showed that the insecticide profenofos significant effect (p <0.05) for cocoon productionand the effect is not significant (p> 0.05) on viability of earthworm cocoons.
