Abstract

This study aims to analyze the problem solving ability of students using polya theory on the subject matter of astronomy Kepler's law. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The approach used is a case study. The data collection method used a test in the form of 5 essay questions and interviews and documentation. The subjects in this study were 35 students of the 6th semester of the Physics Education study program at Sriwijaya University in the 2021/2022 academic year. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman data analysis model including data reduction, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that there were no students who scored astronomical problem solving abilities on the subject of Kepler's law on very poor criteria, students who scored very well criteria were 2 people, good criteria were 8 people, sufficient criteria were 20 people and less criteria were 5 people. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that students with very good criteria are able to understand the problem, make plans, implement plans and re-examine the answers obtained. Students with good criteria are able to understand the problem, make plans and implement plans but have not been able to re-examine the answers obtained. Students with sufficient criteria are able to understand the problem, explain the completion plan, implement the plan but have not been able to re-examine the answers obtained. Students with poor criteria are able to understand the problem and carry out plans on several questions but have not been able to plan and re-examine the answers obtained.
