Abstract

The manufacturing process using the 3D printing method is now growing very rapidly. This technology has the advantage of being able to create complex geometries from various types of materials ranging from plastics, ceramics, to metals. The most widely used material in production using the 3D Printer method is polylactic acid (PLA). Polymer materials are usually produced by the extrusion method used in the 3D printing process in printing 3D objects. However, with the high price of polymer materials sold commercially, the cost of printing 3D printers becomes expensive, therefore the research is designing a filament extruder machine tool as a tool in the manufacture of 3D printer materials, so that materials can be made at lower prices than the market. Before producing filament from a design tool that is made, there are several steps that must be carried out first, namely optimizing the extruder machine that is designed to build which aims to get results that are more or less the same as the quality of commercial filaments. In the process of designing a single screw extruder machine which began with reviewing literature studies, concept formation, designing tool structures, the best concept was found, namely, concept 3. This test used experimental methods and simulations on motor rotation speed and screw extruder analysis with SKH 51 material This is done because the screw extruder is the core component that determines the quality of the filament produced. The next step is experimental testing on the tool so that the production of PLA filaments from PLA pallet granules is obtained, by varying the rotation of the motor with a speed of 20 rpm, 25 rpm, and 30 rpm, the diameter of the filaments is 1.34 mm, 1.48 mm, and 1 ,65 mm with a load that is held by a screw extruder from a PLA pallet which is 350 MPa. From the simulation results of the screw extruder being rotated by the motor, it is known that the maximum von Mises stress distribution with a value of 180 Mpa is obtained in the screw extruder which is given a motor torque load of 34.5 Nm, so the material is safe when it is loaded.
