Abstract

The mouth of the barong river was a body of water in the district of banyuasin, southern province of Sumatra. Most of the mouth of the barong river is surrounded by mangrove ecosystems and muddy areas. One of the indirect benefits derived from the mangrove ecosystem is being able to absorb co2 in the atmosphere and store it in the form of biomass, one of which is in sediment. The accumulation of organic material in the mud bottom has a correlation with the density of makrozoobenthos. Very little information about organic carbon storage and its correlation to macrozoobenthos's density makes this research feasible. The purpose of this study was to estimate organic carbon storage, calculate the density of marozoobenthos, and check the connection between organic carbon and makrozoobenthos at the mouths of the barong river in south Sumatra. This research was carried out in July 2021. The mudflat sample was retrieved for organic carbon analysis, makrozoobenthos, along with the environmental parameters. Results suggest that the highest carbon storage information is in Great Barong River estuary 113 mg /ha and lower small barong river estuary 54 mg /ha. The density of makrozoobenthos ranges from 9-36 ind/m² dominated by bivalvia and gastropods. Results from linear regression analysis indicate that there is a % c organic relationship with macrozoobenthos of 0.887 have a strong relationship
