Abstract

Musi River is the longest water flow located on the island of Sumatra with a length of 720 km. The potential flow of the Musi River is used as a transportation route, as a final disposal of community activities and agricultural activities. Rivers as water reservoirs have a certain capacity due to natural and anthropogenic activities. An organism can be a bioindicator of water quality such as phytoplankton. The spatial distribution of plankton as a bioindicator of water quality depends on the distribution pattern which is influenced by physical and chemical parameters. This study aims to the analysis of abundance, diversity, uniformity and dominance of phytoplankton. Observations of 10 sampling stations found 6 genera from the class Bacillariophyceae (Bacillaria, Coscinodiscus, Ghemponema, Navicula, Skeletonema, Strepthotecha), 6 genera from the class Chlorophyceae (Chlorella, Hydrodiction, Micrasterias, Pediastrum, Platydorina, Spirogyra), 1 genus class Cyanophyceae (Oscillatoria). The results of the analysis obtained an abundance of 10-483 cells/L, diversity index (H') 0.893-1.566, uniformity index (E) 0.753-0.995, and dominance index (C) 0.253-0.459 with the phytoplankton genus in the highest abundance of Spirogyra and the lowest Bacillariophycea. . The results of the observations show that the physico-chemical parameters are in a good category for phytoplankton growth.
