Abstract

After the 2008 crisis, broader non-monetary strategic issues began to emerge within the G20. One of them is environmental sustainability and natural resources. Member countries are starting to realize that in order to recover from the crisis, achieve strong and sustainable economic growth, it is important to ensure that natural resources and the environment are sustainable, and the risks of climate change must be mitigated as soon as possible. green growth; as an idea that encourages economic growth and development efforts while ensuring that natural assets continue to provide environmental resources and services for human sustainability and welfare, the G20 is believed to be a solution to crisis recovery and towards sustainable economic development. This study aims to see how the idea of green growth was successfully entered and constructed into the G20, thus giving birth to the structures that we can see today. The research method used is a qualitative-descriptive approach with data sources, namely secondary data obtained from leader declarations, summit communiques, annual reports, lists of G20 member commitments, to articles and related research and previous literature studies. The results showed that the green growth idea was successfully entered into the G20, through the construction process brought by South Korea and Mexico as actors who led the development of this idea. Furthermore, the idea of green growth is also supported and disseminated through workshops, project funding, peer-learning, to the publication of policy recommendations by actors from international organizations (OECD, UNEP, and WEF), international financial institutions (World Bank), to the international Green Growth Partnership. (GGKP, GGGI). Social practices carried out by international actors have succeeded in producing structures in the form of agreements and leader declarations for written commitments in the communique, and important documents resulting from the G20 Summit, the birth of norms to continue to involve environmental perspectives in G20 economic activities, inclusive green growth, and increased funding for more green projects.
