Abstract

Spirulina platensis is a microalgae that has high antioxidant properties from the phycobiliprotein group of compounds. Antioxidants can inhibit oxidation reactions by binding to free radicals and reactive molecules that cause aging. Spirulina platensis can be used as an active substance in antiaging cosmetics, one of which is the preparation of nano peel off gel masks. This study aims to determine the presence or absence of antioxidant activity in the Spirulina platensis nano peel off gel mask preparation by in vitro method using DPPH. Extraction is done by ultrasonication method. The results of the phytochemical screening of Spirulina platensis extract were positive for steroids and flavonoids. TLC analysis showed that the extract contained flavonoid compounds as antioxidants using DPPH. The total flavonoid content in the Spirulina platensis extract was 196.009 mg/g by weight of the extract. Spirulina platensis extract produced a yield of 8.144% with an IC50 value of 70.998 g/mL which has strong antioxidant activity. Spirulina platensis extract has a moisture content of 12%, drying shrinkage of 13.6%, and ash content of 7.843%. The nanoparticle extract yielded a percent efficiency value of 82.09±0.066% with an IC50 value of 7.0821 g/mL which has a very strong antioxidant activity. The characterization of the nanoparticle extract stated that the extract had a particle size of 779.2 nm, a PDI of 0.483, and a zeta potential of +45.6 mV. The peel off gel mask preparation produced an IC50 value of 120.631 g/mL which had moderate antioxidant activity. The evaluation of Spirulina platensis peel off gel mask consisted of organoleptic tests, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesion, drying time, viscosity, pH, and stability, where all evaluations indicated that the peel off gel mask preparation met the requirements of a good evaluation.
