Abstract

The main material that must be considered in a construction construction is soil, because soil has an important role in maintaining the solidity of a foundation. Problematic soil is often encountered during the implementation of a construction, an example of problematic soil is expansive clay. Expansive clay has many problems, such as being very easily affected by water, having high swelling shrinkage properties, and high soil settlement value. This property causes the construction to be less stable and less good. Construction instability can be overcome by stabilizing the soil which is the basis for supporting a building. The stabilization carried out is chemical stabilization in the form of adding volcanic ash waste resulting from volcanic eruptions, with variations of volcanic ash 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. The curing time is 0 days, 3 days, 7 days and 14 days. In this study, the tests carried out were testing soil properties and mechanical tests in the form of standard soil compaction tests and california bearing ratio soaked tests. The results of the study indicate that the greater the addition of volcanic ash variations can increase the value of the bearing capacity of the soaked CBR soil to mixed soils. The increase in the immersion CBR value was also influenced by the length of curing time. The highest immersion CBR value was found on the 14th day of curing time.
