Abstract

Based on data of Ministry of energy and mineral resources 2017 equal to 50,01% Indonesia coal represent the coal with the low rank. Nowadays, processing that has conducted at mining industry only limited to minimizing of size measure item,coal washing and coal blending. Whereas, activity to increase quality of coal still less be developed. Therefore, activity to upgrade low quality coal willhavevery strategic valuable. The low rank coal can be improved by lessening content moisture in coal. Upgrading by eliminating content moisture generally conducted with the warm-up process. This warm-up process can cause the coal pore opened. Open coal pore cause the moisture from accessible environment return into coal when the coal kept before used. Therefore, coal result of upgrading to havetheimmediately exploited. But, generally, coal do not be direct exploited, but kept beforehand in stockpile or experience of the transportation process during some times.Therefore, itmust be done prevention so that content moisture do not increase when the coal kept after warm-up process. Addition of Palm Fatty Acid Distilation (PFAD) at process of upgrading coal function as coating coal. Existence of this coating will cause the coal do not easy to permeate the water return so that coal quality can be awaked. Addition PFAD will have an effect on to the coal characteristic.This research aim to know the influence of warm-up temperature that used at process of upgrading coal with the addition PFAD to coal characteristic. This research is conducted beforehand mingle the coal ofresult of size measure sieve -30 +50 mesh by PFAD equal to 12% from coal weight. Furthermore, the mixture is printed to be a cylinder form and heated with five variation temperatures that are 1000C, 1500C, 2000C, 2500C dan 300oC. Result of this research indicate that different warm-up temperature will yield the different coal characteristic also.Result of this research indicate that the coal enhanced by PFAD with the warm-up temperature 150 - 2000C owningthe best characteristic. Characteristic ofPFAD coal mixture with the warm-up temperature 1500C owning inherent moisture content 14,14 %adb, voalite matter content 46,75 %adb, dust content 4,78 % adb andcalorificvalue 5643 cal/gr. At temperature 2000C owning inherent moisture content 7,60 %adb, volatile matter content 50,71 %adb, dust content 3,92 %adb and calorific value 5786 cal/gr.From combustion behavioral facet, coal of mixture PFAD with the temperature 1500C owningstartup ignition time equal to 17,55417 minute and burning timeequal to 2,30833 minute. At temperature 2000C owning startup ignition time equal to 16,50417 minute and burning time equal to 3,13333 minute. Result of research also indicates that the addition of PFAD can pursue the return of absorption moistureis only 2,234% at warm-up temperature 1500C and 5,94% at warm-up temperature 2000C. This research is also known that the content of emission of gas NO and CO at temperature 1500C and 2000C residing in below the mark specified by ministry of energy and mineral resources.
