Abstract

Research on dehydration of isopropanol to diisopropyl using this catalyst begins with the activation process of zeolite and modification of the catalyst Zeolite-Zr(H2PO4)4 with various concentrations of 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mEq/g. Zeolite-Zr(H2PO4)4 catalyst was obtained with the best composition which resulted in the yield and selectivity of diisopropyl ether products of 35.84% and 47.88%, respectively. Acidity analysis using pyridine gas showed an increase in the number of sites of total acidity from 0.7394 mmol/g after the metal impregnation process to 0.7807 mmol/g.. SEM characterization showed that the surface morphology of the zeolite catalyst, which originally consisted of irregular plates, caused a size distribution. grains become diverse and on the Zeolite-Zr(H2PO4)4 catalyst there are lumps which indicate the impregnation process has not occurred properly. XRD analysis showed that there were peaks at 2θ angles at 13.51o, 19.705o, 22.372o, 25.72o, and 27.59o which are typical peaks of Zeolite-Zr(H2PO4)4 catalyst and in the EDS characterization there was an increase in the original Zr element. 0.00% atoms to 4.29% atoms and an increase in P elements from 0% atoms to 1.23% atoms. The absorption wave number of 478 cm-1 on the Zeolite-Zr(H2PO4)4 catalyst indicates the presence of Zr metal attached to the impregnation process and at the absorption wave number of 1637.56 cm-1 and 1402.25 cm-1 there are sites of bronsted acid and acid lewis.
