Abstract

This descriptive study aims to determine intrapopulation variations and relation the phenetic kinship of climbing perches (Anabas testudineus Bloch.) in the waters of South Sumatra and Jambi. The study was conducted from November 2021 to April 2022, with sample collection locations in the Belida River and Kelekar River (South Sumatra), the Kiaro River and Lubuk Belango River (Jambi). The fish are caught with gill net fishing gear and bubu. Analysis of intrapopulation variations in morphometric characters converted into linear equations, descriptive meristic characters, and kinship relationships using cluster analysis and converted into dendograms. The results showed variations in the growth patterns of each morphometric and meristic character of the four rivers. The relationship of total length to body weight of betok fish from Belida River has a shape that is more similar to Kelekar River, while betok fish from Kiaro River has a shape that is more similar to Lubuk Belango River. The relationship between the standard length and body weight of betok fish from the Belida River, Kelekar River, and Lubuk Belango River has a more similar shape compared to betok fish from the Kiaro River. The relationship of height to the weight of the betok fish from the Belida River has a shape that is more similar to the Kelekar River, while the betok fish from the Kiaro River has a shape that is more similar to the Lubuk Belango River. The long relationship of the part on the face of the dorsal fin of the betok fish from the Belida River has a shape that is more similar to the Kelekar River, while the betok fish from the Kiaro River has a shape that is more similar to the Lubuk Belango River. The relationship of anal fin height to the body weight of the betok fish from the Belida River has a shape that is more similar to the Kelekar River, while the betok fish from the Kiaro River has a shape that is more similar to the Lubuk Belango River. The allometric variation of betok fish is betok fish from belida river and kelekar river has a slimmer and longer shape than betok fish from Kiaro River and Lubuk Belango River. Meanwhile, betok fish from the Kiaro River and Lubuk Belango River have a fatter and shorter shape. Keywords: Anabas testudineus, phenetic kinship, Belida River, Kelekar River, Kiaro River, Lubuk Belango River, intrapopulation variation.
