Abstract

Payung Island is an island located at the mouth of the Musi River, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province. Payung Island acts as a spawning, nurturing and foraging area for the surrounding aquatic biota because Payung Island is dominated by mangrove plants so that it has an abundant supply of nutrients obtained from the release of decomposed mangrove litter. This study aims to identify the composition, analyze the abundance, analyze the community index and analyze the relationship between length and weight of fish in the mangrove ecosystem of Payung Island. The study was conducted from September to November 2021 on Payung Island, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province, samples were taken using a splint net. The results showed that there were 615 total fish consisting of 19 families and 20 species. Fish abundance ranged from 494.44 to 3208.33 individuals/ha. With the highest relative abundance of fish, namely Nibea saldado of 62.9%. The average diversity index belongs to the medium category with a value between 0.86-2.07. The uniformity index is 0.36-0.83. While the average dominance index is low with a value of 0.17-0.63. Of the five fish used as samples to see the growth pattern, 1 of them had a positive allometric growth pattern and the other 4 had a negative allometric growth pattern, this means that the growth of fish length is faster than the growth of fish weight or the average thin-bodied fish.
