Abstract

Upwelling is a phenomenon that often occurs in the oceans. Upwelling itself is defined as the process of increasing the mass of seawater in the deep sea layers to the surface caused by a void of seawater masses on the surface. The existence of this upwelling phenomenon causes an anomaly that causes many impacts on the oceans and the earth's atmosphere in an area. The Ocean Dipole Index (IOD) is one of the real impacts of this upwelling phenomenon. By carrying out the data visualization process using the GrADS-2.2 software, this study discusses what impacts may occur due to the upwelling phenomenon that occurred in Indo-Australian waters in 2015 seen from several supporting parameters, one of which is looking at the level of sea surface temperature Indo-Australian waters. After the data visualization process is carried out, then the analysis process is carried out to determine the upwelling phenomenon that occurred in 2015 through anomalies that occur in the oceans and atmosphere. After conducting the research, the authors concluded that the upwelling phenomenon was the main trigger for the Positive IOD event in 2015 which resulted in many anomalies in Indo-Australian waters.
