Abstract

Laboratory wastewater should not be discharged directly into the environment without further treatment. That can cause pollution to the environment, whose impact is also felt by living things around it. Materials contained in laboratory wastewater are classified as hazardous and toxic waste materials (B3) that contain organic and inorganic materials such as Cd, Pb, Cu, Hg, Cr, Zn, Fe, and other heavy metals. The study aims to reduce heavy metals in laboratory wastewater by adsorption methods using adsorbents. Therefore, the study decreased heavy metals Pb, Cu, and Cd in laboratory wastewater with activated charcoal and synthetic zeolite as adsorbents. Characterization of activated carbon adsorbents and synthetic zeolites was done using SEM EDX, XRD and BET. The adsorption process was carried out under the best operating conditions, using activated carbon adsorbents added as much as 1 gram at a pH of 7.0. Adsorption was done by stirring for 1 hour, followed by deposition for 24 hours. The adsorption solution was filtered and checked for metal levels using an Atomic Adsorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Treatment of multicomponent synthetic waste showed a metal removal percentage of Pb of 95.78%, Cu of 94.24% and Cd of 87.59%. Adsorption applications in laboratory wastewater provided the most significant percentage of Pb removal of 83.79%, Cu of 26.11%, and Cd of 70.15%. Isotherms adsorption that suitable was Isothermic Langmuir with R2 0,9990 and adsorption capacity value of 2,0842 mg/g.
