Abstract

Cases of bone damage due to disease, incidence, or age factor is increasing increases, the demand for bone implants also increases. Limited bone donors and expensive synthetic materials are no longer a problem due to bone tissue engineering. Alternative materials are needed which are biocompatible, biodegradable and bioactive. This research aims to determine the effect of compaction temperature and PLA composition on the biocomposite HA/PLA. Synthesis of HA powder made by calcination method using an electric furnace with a temperature of 800 "C for one hour. HA/PLA composites were made using the cold sintering method with variations of compaction temperature of 100,125 and 150 oC and composition of HA/PLA (70:30;80:20;90:10)wt% for 15 minutes. From the XRD test, it can be seen that the composition The phases formed are HA (hydroxyapatite) and PlA (polylactid acid) with the predominant HA phase. From several other tests, it is known that the increase in the composition of PLA and the compaction temperature used, the percentage of porosity will decrease between 44.746% to l5.5l5%. In the compressive test, the compressive strength value will increase between 39.168 to 78.432 MPa, In SEM observations, the diffusion between the PLA particles binds HA and HA powder is dispersed filling pores. On FTIR test the more clearly the carboxyl group will be seen. This shows that HA/PLA biocomposites are potential candidates for bone implants.
