Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the effect of Alang-Alang (Imperata cylindrica) mulch on the yield of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum). The research was conducted in Balai Pembibitan Ternak Unggul Sapi Dwiguna dan Ayam (BPTU) Sembawa, Sumatera Selatan started from April to August 2005. The research was arranged in a randomized block design with six treatments and three replications. The treatments were consisted of 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 ton per ha alang-alang mulch. Parameters of this research were the ffesh yield, dry weight of matter and dry weight of roots. The result showed that effect of alang-alang mulch application were bighly significant (P< 0,01) effect on ffesh yield and dry matter but there was no significant (P > 0.05) effect on dry weight of roots. It was concluded that 12 ton per ha alang-alang mulch give the best result on the yield of elephant grass.
