Abstract

Coal washing is an activity to improve the quality of coal, so that the coal complies with certain conditions of use. Coal washing aims to separate the impurity material in an effort to improve the quality of coal so that the heat value is increased and the water and dust content is reduced. Coal washing is done because the coal from mining is not clean coal, but still contains a lot of impurities. There are several washing tools, one of which is a shaking table. Shaking table is used in coal processing for separation using the principle of differences in specific gravity. This tool is used in coal processing to process low grade coal with fine grains with coal with grades according to predetermined standards. The working principle of the shaking table is based on the difference in specific gravity and particle size against the frictional force due to the flow of water. The process of applying the shaking table as a tool to separate and improve the quality of coal has several problem formulations that need to be studied including analyzing the influence of the parameters on the shaking table that affect the results of the coal washing process so as to produce low ash content in coal, and analyzing recovery from the results of the coal washing process using a shaking table. For grain size, 3 sizes are used, namely 4 mesh, 6 mesh and 8 mesh. As for the height of the riffle, 3 types are used, namely 2mm, 4mm, and 8mm. This research was conducted with the aim of increasing the quality of coal by reducing ash content of coal through a washing process using a shaking table.
