Abstract

This study aims to determine the meaning of patriotism values from the views of audiences who have different positions and backgrounds through a film entitled The East (De Oost) by Jim Taihuttu. This research was carried out with qualitative methods and reception analysis methods. By using data collection methods in the form of documentation studies and in-depth interviews, the informants of this research were determined based on certain criteria. The conclusion of this study shows that the informants understand the definition of patriotism and are able to perceive the value of patriotism in the film The East. If the informants are categorized in the audience position according to Stuart Hall, then in this study three informants are placed in a dominant hegemonic position and one informant is in a negotiated position.
