Abstract

Pregnancy is a process that occurs from conception to birth. Pregnancy causes changes in a woman's biological and psychological state, so various adjustments are needed. One of them, pregnant women find it difficult to accept all the typical changes in physical terms. The physical changes felt by pregnant women during pregnancy have consequences for changes in their body image. This study was conducted to find out and understand in depth about how to accept changes in body image in pregnant women in the working area of the Makrayu Health Center, Ilir Barat II, Palembang. This study uses a qualitative research method with a phenomenological study approach and uses a purposive sampling technique. The research was conducted by face-to-face in-depth interviews and observations to eight informants while still implementing health protocols. The results of the study obtained six themes, namely the experience of pregnant women when they first found out they were pregnant, reactions to changes in body image in pregnant women, physical responses during pregnancy, psychological responses during pregnancy, fulfilling the physical needs of pregnant and fulfilling the psychological needs of pregnant women. It was concluded that the excitement and concern of pregnant women about the changes felt during pregnancy can lead to a sense of acceptance of changes in body image well. It is expected that pregnant women will know more about the physical and psychological changes during pregnancy, so that pregnant women can accept and consider these changes as a normal thing that happens to pregnant women as a process during pregnancy.
