Abstract

Problems related to drugs have now become a thorny problem in society, in this country drug use is increasing, especially in the province of South Sumatra which is included in the five provinces that rank the highest regarding cases of drug use. In order to reduce the number of drug abuse cases through the drug rehabilitation center, Ar Rahman Palembang provides rehabilitation services in the form of counseling carried out by counselors, which in practice counselors practice therapeutic communication. This study entitled "Therapeutic Communication in Counseling between Counselors and Clients at the Ar Rahman Drug Rehabilitation Center Palembang", which aims to see how therapeutic communication in counseling between counselors and clients at the Ar Rahman drug rehabilitation center Palembang. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews, observation & documentation. Research data obtained from primary data, namely Counselors & Clients. And secondary data from books, study centers. This study uses the theory of The Therapeutic Communication Stages theory from Stuart (1998) in (Abdul Muhith & Sandu Siyoto, 2018: 256-267). From the results of the study, it was found that the Counselor at the Ar Rahman Drug Rehabilitation Center in Palembang used four phases in Therapeutic Communication, namely the Pre-Interaction Phase, Orientation Phase, Work Phase & Termination. The Orientation Phase and the Work Phase are the most important phases in Counseling. Counselors create a sense of comfort and trust which is the main key to creating a therapeutic relationship between Counselors and Clients.
