Abstract

In this study, the synthesis of CoFe2O4/SiO2/NiO composites was carried out for the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye. The synthesized materials were characterized using XRD, SEM-EDS, VSM, and UV-VIS DRS. Characterization results using the XRD tool shows the highest intensity was located at 2θ = 43.25° with a crystal size of 2.41 nm. Characterization results using the SEM-EDS tool shows a homogeneous morphological structure and consists of Co (1.94%), Fe (3.51%), O (39.16%), Si (7.79%) and Ni (32 ,82%). The saturation magnetization value shows by the characterization results using the VSM tool was 43.96 emu/g and the band gap characterization result from the UV-VIS DRS measurement result was 1.5 eV. The pHpzc CoFe2O4/SiO2/NiO value was obtained at pH 7.1. The best condition for concentration methylene blue dye removal by the CoFe2O4/SiO2/NiO composite was at pH 8 with a concentration of 20 mg/L and a UV irradiation time of 60 minutes resulted in an effectiveness of dye removal by 99.30%. TOC analysis shows that the methylene blue dye before degradation contained 7.72 ppm carbon and 0 ppm after degradation process which indicated that the carbon content in methylene blue had been degraded 100%
