Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, almost all mass media, both print and online, discussed how terrible the impact of this virus would be when it infects humans, where this made people wary and afraid if this virus spread to all levels of society, including students. This study aims to determine whether there is an influence between the intensity of Covid-19 news broadcasts on the anxiety level of FISIP Sriwijaya University students. This study uses the media cultivation theory by George Webner and the symptoms of anxiety according to Gunansa are in the form of physical symptoms and psychological symptoms. The method used in this research is descriptive and explanative quantitative method. Data collection technique in this research is distributing questionnaires to respondents. Then the analytical technique used in this study is a simple linear regression test. The results of this study indicate that the level of achievement of the variable motive intensity of impressions is in the high category with an empirical score (786) and the anxiety level of students who are in the high category with an empirical score (2592). The result of the coefficient of determination of the effect of the variable x on getting a percentage of 17.5%. Then the results of a simple linear regression test get Y = 1,446 X + 19,635 which means that every 1% addition of the intensity value of the show will give an increase in value of 1,446 on the anxiety level of the 2017 Sriwijaya University FISIP students.
