Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the growth and production characteristics of the two parental varieties and to ensure that the accesion of BC1F1 from crosses of Inpago 10 and Inpara 8 rice varieties with the parents of the Inpago 10 variety can have dual tolerance to drought stress in the generative phase and submerged stress in the vegetative phase. The research was conducted in the Greenhouse of Agricultural Cultivation Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra from September 2021 to March 2022. The observed variables were plant height, number of tillers per clump, number of panicles per clump, number of grain per clump, number of grain per panicle, dry weight of harvested grain per panicle, dry weight of harvested grain per clump, dry weight of grain per clump, weight of 1000 grains of unhulled grain, percentage of empty grain, age of flowering rice plants, age of harvest, percentage of crosses yielded, number of crossed grains, the length of the husked rice and the width of the skin-broken rice. Data then were analyzed using the ANOVA test and continued with tukey honestly significant difference test. F1 as a result of a cross of Inpago 10 and Inpara 8 varieties had the best growth results on the variables number of tillers per clump, number of panicles per clump, number of grains per clump, number of grain per panicle, dry weight of harvested grain per panicle, dry weight of harvested grain per clump, dry weight of grain per clump, and percentage of empty grain. Meanwhile, the results of backcrossing F1 with Inpago 10 parent variety produced 33% of the 437 crossed flowers or 146 seeds that were successfully formed.
