Abstract

Swamp land is often flooded during the rainy season and in contrary there will be drought condition during the dry season. This condition makes difficulties in growing rice. The purpose of this research is to obtain rice varieties having double tolerant of submergence at vegetative phase and drought at reproductive phase by crossing the Inpago 12 and Inpara 8. This research was conducted by evaluating the growth characteristics of Inpago 12, Inpara 8 and its F1 accession. Backcrossing was carried out on F1 with its female parent Inpago 12. This research was conducted at the Greenhouse of Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from August 2021 to February 2022. Randomized Complete Block Design with 3 replicates was used to evaluate growth and yield of parent varieties, while backcrossing method was used to obtain the BC1F1 accession from F1 dan Inpago 12. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be concluded that the Inpago 12 variety has agronomic characters that tend to be better than the Inpara 8 variety and F1 accessions based on the variables of panicle number per clump, number of grain per panicle, dry weight of grain per clump, fresh weight of grain per clump, flowering and harvesting age. The backcrossing activity resulted 76 seeds with a crossing yield of 15.01%. The length and width of the BC1F1 accession rice were not very significantly different from the parents and had a relatively slender rice shape, namely 5.46 mm.
