Abstract

Mengkudu (Morinda citrifolia) adalah tanaman obat tradisional yang mengandung antrakuinon, saponin, flavonoid, minyak atsiri dan alkaloid yang dinyatakan sebagai antibakteri dan antijamur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek dari ekstrak buah mengkudu dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans. Penelitian yang dilakukan bersifat eksperimen laboratorium dengan rancangan post test only control group design. Sampel penelitian ini menggunakan isolat Streptococcus mutans, dan penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sriwijaya Aktivitas antibakteri diukur dari diameter zona inhibisi yang terbentuk mengelilingi silinder stainless stell. Data dianalisa menggunakan program SPSS versi 16 dengan uji ANOVA satu arah dilanjutkan dengan tes LSD dengan batas nilai signifikan 0,05. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan ekstrak buah mengkudu mampu menghambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans. Disimpulkan konsentrasi efektif dari buah mengkudu dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans adalah 2%. Kata kunci: ekstrak buah mengkudu, antibakteri, Streptococcus mutans.
