Abstract

Lipstick is a type of lip color cosmetic that is currently in great demand by consumers. The quality of liquid lipstick is influenced by its constituent components such as oil and wax. Repeated use of liquid lipstick can cause the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum formula (optimization) and to determine the antibacterial activity against S. aureus in liquid lipstick preparations. This study used sesame oil and microcrystaline wax as the basis for liquid lipstick. Sesame seed oil (Sesamum indicum L.) in addition to working as a base, also contains fatty acids which are expected to inhibit the growth of S. aureus bacteria by disc diffusion method. The added microcrystal wax can produce a good texture and adhesion to the preparation. The formula was made using the 22 factorial design method with sesame seed oil and microcrystaline wax factors and to get the optimum formula analyzed by the Design Expert® 13 program based on the parameters of viscosity, spreadability, and adhesion. The results of the analysis of the optimum formula obtained a concentration of 70% sesame seed oil and 5% microcrystaline wax which resulted in a red preparation, vanilla aroma and characteristic of sesame, liquid texture, and had a pH of 5.3. Organoleptic pH, and homogeneity resulted in good quality in the optimum cycling test formula. However, there was a significant difference (P<0.05) in the viscosity parameter. The optimum antibacterial activity formula resulted in the diameter of the inhibition zone formed of 15.33 ± 0.76 mm with a strong inhibition zone category. Kualitas lipstik cair dipengaruhi oleh komponen penyusun basisnya seperti minyak dan lilin. Pemakaian berulang pada lipstik cair dapat menyebabkan adanya pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan formula optimum (optimasi) serta mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri terhadap S. aureus pada sediaan lipstik cair. Penelitian ini menggunakan minyak wijen dan microcrystaline wax sebagai basis pada lipstik cair. Minyak biji wijen (Sesamum indicum L.) selain berfungsi sebagai basis, juga memiliki kandungan asam lemak yang diharapkan dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri S. aureus dengan metode difusi cakram. Microcrystaline wax yang ditambahkan dapat menghasilkan tekstur dan daya lekat yang baik pada sediaan. Formula dibuat dengan menggunakan metode design faktorial 22 yaitu dengan faktor minyak biji wijen dan microcrystaline wax serta untuk mendapatkan formula optimum dianalisis oleh program Design Expert® 13 berdasarkan parameter viskositas, daya sebar, dan daya lekat. Hasil analisis formula optimum diperoleh konsentrasi minyak biji wijen 70% dan microcrystaline wax 5% yang menghasilkan sediaan berwarna merah, aroma vanila dan khas wijen, bertekstur cair, serta memiliki pH 5,3. Organoleptis, pH, dan homogenitas menghasilkan stabilitas yang baik pada uji cycling test formula optimum. Namun terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (P<0.05) pada parameter viskositas. Aktivitas antibakteri formula optimum menghasilkan diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk sebesar 15,33 ± 0,76 mm dengan kategori zona hambat kuat.
