Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the antibacterial activity of the combination of essential oil of Temu Kunci and VCO which are known to have secondary metabolites with antibacterial properties against Staphylococcus epidermidis bacterial. The essential oil of Temu Kunci (Boesenbergia pandurata) and VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil) were tested for antibacterial activity by looking for MIC, MBC, FIC value and zone of inhibition from the results of the MIC test for essential oil of Temu Kunci and VCO single or in combination, as well as data analysis. The results of the research from the MIC of essential oil of Temu Kunci showed that a concentration of 25% with an inhibition zone diameter of 17.6 mm ± 0.623, VCO MIC at a concentration of 25% with an inhibition zone diameter of 17 mm ± 0.408 and a combination MIC of essential oil of Temu Kunci 12.5% and VCO 8.3% with inhibition zone diameter of 21.8 mm ± 0.623. The results of MBC from the essential oil of Temu Kunci at a concentration of 50%, VCO at a concentration of 50% and MBC combination of essential oil of Temu Kunci 25% and VCO 12.5%. The FIC value of the combination of essential oil of Temu Kunci and VCO against Staphylococcus epidermidis bacterial showed additive characteristics with a value of 0.832. Additive characteristics mean that the effect produced by the combination of essential oil of Temu Kunci and VCO on bacteria is the same as the effect produced when used alone.
