Abstract

Spoiler is one of the important components in cars that affects aerodynamic phenomena in cars, functioning to increase downforce in cars to reduce the lifting force arising from high speeds. This study aims to determine the influence of spoiler shape and angle on drag coefficients on vehicles, find out the comparison of drag coefficient values from CFD simulation, and determine the best configuration that can produce the lowest drag coefficient. The limitation of this study is that the discussion focuses on the effect of the use of spoilers on sedan cars from shape and angle to the drag coefficient with parameters such as vehicle speed with variations of 90 km/h, 105 km/h, and 120 km/ h, as well as simulations carried out on steady flow. The simulation results showed that the shape of the spoiler affects the value of the drag coefficient because from each model difference there is a difference in the value of the drag coefficient, in spoiler A the angle of inclination 5° with a speed of 90 km/h has a lower drag coefficient value of 0.46728906, while spoiler B the angle of inclination 5 ° speed 90 km/h has a Cd value of 0.48785046. After analyzing the test, it was found that the greater the angle of the spoiler will result in an increase in the drag coefficient and effectively increase the downward force which results in increased vehicle stability at high speeds.
